we are taught to:
think for ourselves
forge our own paths
map out our destiny
except...
sometimes...
family does not agree
they're needs trump our own.
our voice is
quieted
muffled
silenced
until
we are unable to think for ourselves
then, we are their pawn
waiting to find which direction to move in.
what kind of life is that?
These really have the makings of a novella. You are telling a story that can connect with a lot of people.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ann--and think I said the same thing in an earlier comment somewhere on here. Have you read Essie Was Smart, Amber Was Brave (I think that's the correct title). Can't remember the author at the moment, but it's a series of poems that tells a powerful story about 2 little girls. I'll try to find it for you to borrow if you don't have it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read those. I did stumble on a book of poems on different topics that I haven't read yet
